CHESHIRE LODGE JOINS THE NO SMOKING EFFORT
December 5, 2005- St. Louis, MO - Effective January 1, 2006, one of St. Louis' most recognized landmarks will become a non-smoking entity. After New Years Eve, the Cheshire Lodge hotel will no longer allow smoking in any of its sleeping rooms or public areas. The Fox & Hound Tavern will however remain a smoking facility.
Dan Apted, owner of the Cheshire Lodge, made this decision in an effort to better the health of the Lodge's guests and employees. To complete this process, all rooms will go through an extensive cleaning process to remove any smoky smell. The Cheshire began this process several months ago by slowly reducing the number of smoking rooms in the hotel. The fourth floor was made smoke free earlier in the year. The smoking ban will affect all rooms including the Cheshire's infamous fantasy suites. Cheshire Lodge guests have been extremely pleased with the idea of a smoke-free establishment and the greater availability of non-smoking rooms.
The Cheshire Lodge was built in 1964 and immediately became one of the hot spots in St. Louis. Now nearing the end of its 43rd anniversary year, the Cheshire is making quite a few changes and updates including renovation of the exterior of the building. With few hotels making this bold move, the Cheshire Lodge continues its tradition of being an original in the city of St. Louis. Complete renovation of both the underground parking areas, front door parking area, pool patio, beer garden and lobby amenities.
CHESHIRE LODGE INSTALLS WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS IN FIRST FLOOR GUEST ROOMS
March 10, 2005- St. Louis, MO – Continuing with its renovations, the Cheshire Lodge has installed wireless high-speed Internet access in the lobby and common areas of the hotel as well as all first floor room. They hope to expand the coverage to all 106 guest rooms by this mid summer.
This service supports Virtual Private Networking (VPN) connections and employs T-1 level service to the guest room which is much faster than speeds available to the average residential user. Guests simply power up their laptop and use their existing wireless adapter, or they can check-out a wireless adapter from the front desk to enjoy the high speed wireless internet connectivity.
"We’re very pleased to provide business travelers with easy high-speed Internet access and the convenience of being able to stay connected while on the road,” said Tony BouAoun, Cheshire Lodge’s general manager. “This service further enhances our hotel’s reputation as a great place to stay, work and play.”
Currently, about 25 rooms have wireless high-speed access and the hotel’s remaining rooms offer standard dial-up Internet access through a telephone dataport. The hotel’s meeting rooms and lobby are also wireless.
The Cheshire’s 1 foot thick concrete walls proved to be a challenge for wireless internet companies trying to install the necessary equipment for wireless access. In 1964 when the hotel was built, the walls were made extra thick for reasons of safety and noise reduction. It took just over two years to figure out a way to make wireless internet a reality at the Cheshire Lodge.
Located in mid-town at the corner of Clayton and Skinker, the Cheshire is the closest hotel to Forest Park and a historic landmark in St. Louis. Earlier this year the hotel announced it was updating all 106 rooms just in time for their 40th anniversary. The project was completed in mid-February and an anniversary celebration will take place in May.
